I maintain that Bruno Mars is one of the best things to happen to R&B in years. Not only does he combine marvelous songwriting with an Usher-level singing voice, he is single-handedly bringing romance back to the genre. At this point, only the teeny-bopper R&B acts like Sean Kingston and Iyaz were writing genuine love songs, and the rest of the genre was dedicated to increasingly blunt sex jams. This song was like a breath of fresh air. B.O.B. contributes some fine rap lyrics, but it’s Mars who steals the show with his beautiful chorus and perfectly chosen words.
