This song is best known for containing probably the most offensive line in the history of the Rap genre: “Beat that pussy up like Emmett Till”. After a totally justified uproar from pretty much everyone, the offending line was stricken from the official release version of this song, but the fact that they even considered it is more than enough to justify people’s anger. This unforgivably insensitive reference to the Civil Rights Movement’s most famous martyr has come to so dominate this song’s reputation that few people even notice the rest of the song. This is actually rather sad, because unlike the similar “U.O.E.N.O.”, this would actually have been a fairly decent song without that one unspeakably vile line. While Mike Will Made It isn’t the most exciting producer you’ll ever find, his style has been proven to work well with Future’s material. And while the fragmented melody isn’t as complex as Future’s best stuff, it does have that haunting, minimalistic quality that makes his work so interesting. The Honest album had some good material on it, but it made a pretty poor choice of singles, with such reprehensible items as “Shit”, “Move That Dope”, and “I Won”. And yet, as terrible as those songs are, this still manages to be the worst thing on the album based on that one line alone. Even Eminem-style Shock Rap has a theoretical line for what it can get away with, and this is about as far over it as any Rap song ever released.
