Ho boy, I’m gonna get in trouble for this one. William Goldman’s dislike of Jerry Herman (which basically boiled down to “How dare you! How dare you have two smash hits in a row when I can’t even have one!”) is well-known, but seriously. How this guy claim that the quintessential example of Broadway mediocrity is every bit as good as _Mame_, of all things, and still get people to call his book “The Bible of Broadway”?
